Spray Foam Insulation Can Keep Your House Warm

Insulating your house is really important. It helps save you money because you aren't going to have to pay as much on your heating and cooling bills, which is always going to be a good thing. Insulation also makes sure that you are going to be more comfortable in your house because the temperature is going to stay where you want it, and there aren't going to be drafts of cold air leaking into your house. There are a number of kinds of insulation that you can choose to use in your house, including spray foam insulation.

Spray Foam Insulation

Spray foam insulation expands when it is applied to the wall or ceiling. The foam is a two-part product. The two parts are kept separate until it's time to install the insulation. Everything gets mixed together when the product is sprayed out of the spray gun. It gets applied to the wall in a thin layer. That thin layer will start to expand to fill up all the available space that is left on the wall. When the product stops expanding, then it will need to cure. At that point, the foam insulation may protrude from the wall space, and that's a normal thing. The contractor installing the insulation will come back after the insulation cures and trim it so that it will sit flush with the wall so that it can be finished.

No Gaps

The expansion feature of spray foam insulation will make sure that all nooks and crannies are filled up and that there aren't any gaps where air can leak into your house and change the temperature in your house. If you have an older house that you are having spray foam retrofitted into, this feature can be really helpful because older buildings are usually drafty and have gaps that will let in the wind. The contractor can use spray foam insulation and use it around your windows and doors so that any gaps are closed up. Closing the gaps around your windows and doors will make your house a lot warmer or cooler almost immediately because you have stopped the heat transfer which will mess with your preferred temperature.

If you want to have new insulation at your house, then you should talk to a contractor about using spray foam insulation. This insulation generally has a high R-value, which means that it is really good at insulating your house.
